Most PDF edits are small: a date that changed, a phone number that is missing, a form that needs filling in, a logo or a signature on the last page. This free PDF editor handles those jobs in your browser. Open the file above, add text, shapes, images and a signature, fill form fields, remove or rotate pages, then download the edited copy.
The file never leaves your device. There is no upload, no account to create and no watermark on the result.
How to edit a PDF
- Drag your PDF into the editor at the top of this page, or click the box to choose it. The pages appear in the editing area.
- Choose the text tool and click where the new text should go. Type it, then set the font, size and color.
- To change existing wording, pick Edit text and click the line you want to change. It opens in place with the original words, size, style and color already matched. Type the new wording and click away.
- Use highlight, freehand drawing, rectangles and lines to mark up the page.
- Add an image such as a logo or a stamp, then drag its corners to resize it and move it into place.
- Add your signature if the document needs one, and click into any interactive form fields to fill them.
- Delete or rotate pages if needed. Use undo to step back through any change you did not mean to make.
- Download the edited PDF and open it once in your usual PDF reader to check it before you send it.
What the editor can and cannot do
A PDF is not a word processing file. It stores text as characters placed at fixed positions on the page, not as paragraphs that flow. That is why PDFs look the same everywhere, and it is also why editing them works differently from editing a Word document.
What it can do
- Add new text anywhere on a page, with your choice of font, size and color.
- Edit existing lines in place: click a line with Edit text and retype it. The editor matches the size, style and color and covers the old line for you.
- Cover any area with a white-out box.
- Highlight passages, draw freehand, and add rectangles and lines.
- Place images such as a company logo, a stamp or a photo.
- Add a signature.
- Fill interactive form fields when the PDF has them.
- Delete and rotate pages, and undo changes.
What it cannot do
- It does not rewrite the original text objects. An edited line is covered and replaced on top, so the text around a change does not reflow to make room. Keep replacements about the same length as the original.
- Fonts are matched to the closest standard font (Helvetica, Times or Courier, with bold and italic). A brand font embedded in the PDF is approximated, not copied.
- It does not read the text in scanned pages (there is no OCR). A scan stays an image, although you can still type, draw and sign on top of it.
- It does not open password-protected PDFs or remove passwords and restrictions.
Warning: A white-out box hides text visually, but the original text is still in the file underneath. Anyone can often select, copy or extract it. Do not rely on white-out to remove account numbers or personal data. For that, run the edited file through Compress PDF in Strong mode, which turns every page into an image, and check that the text can no longer be selected.
Common edits and how to do them
| Task | How to do it here | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Fix a typo or change a date | Edit text tool: click the line and retype it | Looks replaced; the old text remains underneath |
| Fill in an application form | Type into the form fields if the PDF has them; otherwise use the text tool | Fields keep their values in the downloaded file |
| Add a logo to a quote or price list | Image tool, then resize and position | Logo sits on top of the page content |
| Sign a contract | Signature tool | A simple electronic signature, not a certificate-based one |
| Mark up a proof for a designer | Highlight, rectangles, lines and freehand | Marks are saved into the PDF |
| Remove a blank or outdated page | Delete the page | Page count drops by one |
Tips for clean edits
- Zoom in before placing text. Line up the new text with the baseline of the text around it so the change does not stand out.
- Match the size. Body text in most business documents is between 10 and 12 points. Compare your text with a neighboring line before you download.
- Keep white-out boxes tight. Cover the old words fully without clipping the lines above and below. White-out works best on a white background; on a colored header it will show as a white patch.
- Keep the original. Download the edited file under a new name so you can start over if needed.
- Use the right tool for bigger jobs. To reorder many pages, Organize PDF shows thumbnails of every page. To add date and initials to a signed agreement, Sign PDF is built for that.
For store owners, two edits come up again and again. The first is changing an old invoice. It is usually faster and cleaner to create a new one with the Shopify invoice generator than to white out figures on the old PDF. The second is a store policy sent around as a PDF. Google Merchant Center looks for return and refund details on your store itself, not in a downloadable file, so write the policy with the refund policy generator and publish it as a page. The GMC Scanner and Fixer in AM Jarvis checks a connected store for missing policy pages and contact information.
Privacy and limits
The editor runs entirely in your browser. The PDF is opened, edited and saved by your own device, and nothing is uploaded to a server. Once the page has loaded, it keeps working even if you go offline. That makes it suitable for contracts, tax forms and other files you would rather not send to a third party.
The tool is free with no daily limit, needs no sign-up and adds no watermark. Very large files, in the hundreds of megabytes, depend on how much memory your device has, so a phone may struggle where a laptop copes.
Password-protected (encrypted) PDFs must first be opened with their password in another app. Save a copy without protection there, if you are allowed to, and edit that copy here. This editor does not remove passwords or restrictions.
