On eBay, the question that matters is simple: does this product actually sell, and how fast? Active listings only tell you how many people are trying to sell something. They do not tell you who is succeeding. What you need is sales, per listing, for the products you are thinking about.
The eBay tab in AM Jarvis Marketplace Research reads the sold count eBay shows on each listing and turns it into units sold, sales per day, revenue and sell-through, all labeled as estimates. Around that it adds the tools a reseller or dropshipper uses every week: an explorer, seller research, daily best sellers, a keyword tool, a title builder, a bulk scanner, supplier matching, seasonality and saved searches that run on their own.
What is in the eBay tab
- Product research: units sold, sales per day, revenue and sell-through for a product.
- Explorer: find listings by filters and sort them by units sold or sales per day.
- Competitors: a seller's best sellers, feedback, prices and supplier matches.
- Best sellers: a daily list of top fixed price listings across eBay.com categories.
- Keywords: eBay search suggestions scored by demand and competition.
- Title builder: words from the titles that sell best, and an 80 character title you build by clicking.
- Bulk scanner: up to 100 product titles checked against eBay in the background.
- Autopilot: saved searches that run every day and keep new strong sellers.
Supplier matching and seasonality are available from the results, so you can go from "this sells" to "this is what it costs me" in the same place. You can research eBay.com, eBay.co.uk, eBay.de, eBay.com.au and eBay.ca.
How units sold is counted, and what it is not
Most fixed price listings on eBay show how many have sold. AM Jarvis reads that number for the top listings in a search through eBay's official Browse API, then works out:
| Number | How it is worked out |
|---|---|
| Units sold | eBay's own sold count on the listing |
| Sales per day | Units sold divided by the days since the listing started |
| Revenue (estimate) | The price now times units sold |
| Sell-through (estimate) | Listings with at least 1 sale, divided by the listings where eBay reported a sold count |
Be clear about what this is. The sold history comes from each listing's own sold count since that listing started. It is not years of market history, and it does not include listings that already ended. Auctions and some listings do not report a sold count at all, and they show "not reported by eBay" rather than a guess. Revenue uses today's price, so a listing that changed price over time will be off. Treat these numbers as strong signals, not accounting.
When eBay has approved AM Jarvis for its Marketplace Insights API, product research also shows items sold in the last 90 days with their sold prices. Until then, that section says it is not available.
Product research
Type a product, such as "usb c charger 65w", and pick the eBay site. AM Jarvis reads up to 200 active listings, checks units sold on the top 20, 30 or 50 of them (you choose), and shows:
- How many active listings compete for the search, and the lowest, median and highest price.
- The listings you checked, with units sold, sales per day, revenue, listing age, seller and a link.
- The median and best sales per day, and the sell-through estimate.
- The main categories and conditions, so you list in the same place buyers are looking.
From any item you can open Find suppliers, or check the season for the product.
Worked example: reading one listing
The figures here are illustrative, not a real result. A listing shows 240 units sold and started 120 days ago. That is 2 sales a day. At a price of $18.99 now, the revenue estimate is 240 x $18.99, or $4,557.60. Across the 30 listings checked, eBay reported a sold count for 24, and 15 of those had at least one sale, so sell-through is 15 of 24, or about 63%. A search where most listings sell something, and a few sell every day, is a market with real buyers.
Product explorer
The explorer is for finding products rather than checking one. Set a keyword or a category ID, then narrow it down with:
- A price range
- Condition: new, used or refurbished
- Item location, by country
- Format: fixed price, auction or best offer
- A minimum number of units sold
- A maximum listing age, for example listings started in the last 30 days
Results sort by units sold, sales per day, price, newest or revenue. Units sold is checked on the top 20, 30 or 50 matching listings. A new listing that already sells every day is often the most useful thing you can find. When a search looks good, press Save to Autopilot and it runs every day.
Competitor research
Type a seller's eBay username, with an optional keyword or category. AM Jarvis reads their active listings, checks units sold and shows their best sellers, feedback score and percentage, average price and main categories. On eBay.com you can research a seller with no keyword at all: AM Jarvis counts their listings in each top level category and reads the two biggest. When supplier keys are set up, the top 3 best sellers also get supplier matches from CJ Dropshipping and AliExpress.
Best sellers across eBay.com
Once a day AM Jarvis checks the first fixed price listings eBay shows in each of 32 top level eBay.com categories, from Antiques to Video Games and Consoles, and reads the sold count on each one. The list ranks them by estimated sales per day. It is a shared daily snapshot, so browsing it is free and uses no research runs. It covers eBay.com only.
Keyword tool
Type a seed keyword. The keyword tool reads eBay's own search suggestions, counts the active listings for each phrase and checks the sales of the top 3 listings. Each phrase gets a score:
- Demand: estimated monthly units sold by the top 3 listings, on a log scale where 3,000 a month is 100.
- Competition: the number of active listings, on a log scale where 1,000,000 is 100.
- Keyword score: 60% demand plus 40% of (100 minus competition).
High demand with low competition is the phrase to build a listing around.
Title builder with an 80 character limit
eBay titles can be up to 80 characters, and every word counts in search. Type your product and the title builder scores the words used in the 30 best matching listings, giving more weight to titles that sold more. The top word scores 100. Click words to add them to your title, and a counter shows how many of the 80 characters you have used. Copy the title when it reads well.
If you prefer a draft, AI title options write several 80 character titles from your product, its condition, your keywords and the words from competing titles, using your own AI key.
Bulk scanner
Paste up to 100 product titles, one per line, for example a supplier's catalog or your own inventory. The bulk scanner matches each one on eBay (top 3 results) in the background and returns units sold, sales per day, price and competition for each. Export the results as CSV. If the scan hits eBay's daily limit, it pauses and you can resume it later from where it stopped. A scan uses 1 research run and about 4 eBay calls per title.
Supplier matching
Find suppliers takes an eBay product and looks for the same item at supplier prices:
- CJ Dropshipping and AliExpress: free, when the supplier keys are set up.
- Amazon and Walmart: through Google Shopping, which uses 1 credit when it finds offers.
Offers are matched by title words, so always check that it is really the same item before you buy. If you enter your selling price, each offer shows an estimated margin: your price minus the supplier price minus eBay fees of about 13.6% plus $0.40 per order. Shipping, taxes and ads are not included. For a full picture, run the numbers in the profit margin calculator.
Seasonality
Some products sell all year and some sell for six weeks. Seasonality shows Google searches for a product by month over the last 24 months, the peak months, the quiet months, and whether the product is seasonal or steady. It uses Google Ads data, so these are Google searches rather than eBay searches, but they show when buyers look. It is free. If Google Ads data is not available, the tool says the trend was not checked.
Autopilot searches
Save a search with its filters, such as phone stands under $20 with at least 5 sold, and Autopilot runs it once a day. It keeps the new strong sellers it finds, so you open it and see what is new since yesterday. Turn on email and you get a message when it finds new ones. Daily runs are free. Run now checks immediately and uses 1 research run.
Plans and limits
| Plan | Research runs a month | Autopilot searches | Client reports |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | 5 | 1 | No |
| Starter | 100 | 3 | No |
| Pro | Unlimited | 10 | No |
| Agency | Unlimited | 30 | Yes |
Product research, the explorer, competitor research, the keyword tool, the title builder and each bulk scan use 1 research run, counted only when they finish. Research runs are shared with the rest of Marketplace Research and Viral Finder. Best sellers, seasonality and daily autopilot runs are free. Every table has a CSV export, and on Agency a Client report button makes a printable page you can save as a PDF. See the pricing page for credits and everything else each plan includes.
What it does not do
- It does not show years of sold history. Units sold comes from each active listing's own sold count.
- It cannot count sales on most auctions, because eBay does not report them.
- Revenue is an estimate at today's price.
- Sold prices from the last 90 days appear only when eBay has approved the Marketplace Insights API for AM Jarvis.
- Best sellers covers eBay.com only.
- Supplier matches are found by title words and need checking by you.
- It does not list items on eBay for you. You copy the title and research into your own listing.
AM Jarvis uses eBay's public APIs and is not affiliated with or endorsed by eBay.
Free tools that help
Before you list, check your costs with the profit margin calculator, the markup calculator and the break-even calculator, and count title characters with the character counter. The product description generator drafts a listing description. If you sell on Etsy too, Etsy research covers keyword scores and competitor shops, and the Dropshipping Suite finds products and ads for your own store.
