Selling on a marketplace is a search problem first. Shoppers type a phrase, the marketplace matches it against listings, and a listing that does not contain the right words does not get seen, no matter how good the product is. Marketplace Research gives you those words from the marketplaces themselves, then helps you build listings that use them within each platform's rules.
It covers Amazon, Etsy and eBay in one place, so a seller on more than one marketplace can research a product once and list it properly everywhere.
Amazon keyword miner
Enter a product phrase and the miner collects the real search suggestions Amazon shows shoppers as they type. A to Z expansion runs your seed with every letter of the alphabet, which brings up the long, specific phrases buyers use when they are close to purchasing, such as a material, a size or a use case added to the product name.
The miner works across 12 Amazon marketplaces, so you research the store you actually sell in. Shoppers on different Amazon marketplaces search in different words, and sometimes different languages, so a keyword list from one country is not a safe substitute for another. Once you have the list, sort it into three groups: the main phrase for the title, secondary phrases for the bullet points, and the remaining variations for backend search terms. That split is exactly what the listing builder below works from. For a quick one-off check, try the free Amazon keyword tool.
Amazon listing builder with a coverage check
Turn your keyword list into a complete listing draft:
- Title built around your main phrase.
- Five bullet points that cover features and benefits while working in secondary keywords.
- Description for the product detail page.
- Backend search terms kept within Amazon's byte limit (under 250 bytes on Amazon.com).
The limit on search terms is counted in bytes, not characters, so accented letters and some symbols take more space than they appear to. The builder handles that count for you. Amazon's own guidance also says not to repeat words already in your title, and not to include other brand names or ASINs in search terms.
The keyword coverage check then compares the draft against your mined keywords and shows which ones made it into the listing and which did not. You decide whether a missing phrase belongs in a bullet point, in the search terms, or nowhere at all.
Etsy listing optimizer and tag research
Etsy search leans on titles and tags. The Etsy tools cover both:
- Etsy tag research pulls real search suggestions from Etsy, so your tags match the way Etsy shoppers phrase things.
- Listing optimizer writes a title, 13 tags of 20 characters or fewer, and a description.
Etsy allows exactly 13 tags per listing, each up to 20 characters. The optimizer respects both limits, so every tag you paste in is accepted as written and you use all 13 slots. Multi-word tags are allowed and usually more useful than single words. Titles can run up to 140 characters, but Etsy advises keeping them short and readable with the most important words first, and the optimizer writes them that way instead of stuffing every keyword into the title. For a quick check on a single listing, the free Etsy tag generator is available without an account.
eBay research on active listings
Before you list on eBay, you want to know what you are up against. eBay research searches active listings for your product and returns:
| Data point | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Number of competing listings | How crowded the search is for this product right now. |
| Lowest, median and highest price | The range of asking prices. The median is a steadier reference than the lowest price. |
| Top categories | Where competing sellers list the product, which guides your own category choice. |
| Sample listings | Real listings to compare titles, photos and condition against. |
Note: These figures come from active listings, so they are asking prices, not sale prices. Sold-price history is not available through eBay's public API, so the tool does not show it. Treat the median asking price as a ceiling to test against, not a guarantee of what the item sells for.
The eBay title builder then writes a title inside eBay's 80-character limit, built from the phrases you researched, so you are not cutting words by hand to make it fit.
The limits each marketplace enforces
Every marketplace has its own hard limits, and a listing that breaks one gets truncated, rejected or quietly ignored. These are the ones the builders work within:
| Marketplace | Limit | What the tool does |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon | Backend search terms under 250 bytes (Amazon.com) | Counts bytes, not characters, as it writes |
| Amazon | Five bullet points | Writes all five |
| Etsy | 13 tags, 20 characters each | Writes 13 tags that all fit |
| eBay | 80-character title | Builds the title inside the limit |
Limits change from time to time, so check the seller help pages of each marketplace if a listing is rejected.
Check the profit before you list
A keyword that sells is only worth chasing if the numbers work after fees. Marketplace Research connects to fee-aware profit checks in the free calculators, so you can test a price before the listing goes live. The Etsy fee calculator accounts for Etsy's listing, transaction and payment processing fees, and the Shopify fee calculator covers the same product sold through your own store.
Runs on your own AI key
The writing parts, such as the Amazon listing builder, the Etsy listing optimizer and the eBay title builder, run on your own AI key from Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, DeepSeek, OpenRouter or Groq. You pay your provider directly, and the quality of the copy follows the model you choose. If you need a standalone product description for a store or a marketplace, the free product description generator does that single job.
A typical research session
- Enter a product phrase and run the Amazon keyword miner on the marketplace you sell in.
- Run Etsy tag research on the same phrase if the product suits Etsy.
- Check active eBay listings for competition, price range and category.
- Run the profit check at a realistic price for each marketplace.
- Build the Amazon listing and review the keyword coverage check.
- Generate the Etsy title, 13 tags and description, and the 80-character eBay title.
- Paste each draft into the marketplace, review it once more, and publish.
