Etsy charges several small fees on every sale, and they are calculated on different amounts. The listing fee is flat, the transaction fee includes shipping, payment processing depends on the country of your bank account, and offsite ads can take a large bite from a single order. This calculator applies each fee to the right amount for more than 60 countries and shows what is left after your costs.

How to use the calculator

  1. Select your country. This is the country of your Etsy payment account, and it sets the payment processing rate, any regulatory operating fee and the currency. For Canada, Australia and New Zealand, also choose domestic or international order, because international orders cost more to process.
  2. Enter the item price, the shipping you charge and any gift wrap price.
  3. Enter the quantity sold in the order.
  4. Enter your item cost and your actual shipping cost (materials, product and postage you pay).
  5. Choose the offsite ads setting: not from an ad, an ad sale at 15%, or an ad sale at 12% for shops over $10,000 in yearly sales.
  6. Enter sales tax collected on the order, since payment processing is charged on it.
  7. Tick the currency conversion box if your listing currency differs from your payment account currency.

The results show total fees, profit, margin and break-even price, a line by line fee breakdown, and two tips: what the same order earns if it came from an offsite ad, and what to charge for shipping to cover postage plus the fees on it. If Etsy changes a rate, open Fee rates and edit it.

On June 22, 2026 Etsy raised the regulatory operating fee in the UK (from 0.32% to 0.48%), France (0.47% to 1.14%), Italy (0.32% to 0.80%) and Spain (0.72% to 0.88%). The transaction fee, listing fee, processing fees and offsite ads rates did not change. Tรผrkiye (1.67%), Vietnam (1.24%) and Hungary (1.97%) also carry the fee. Etsy changes these rates from time to time, so check its help center if a figure looks off.

Worked example: a US order

A US seller sells one item for $30 with $6 shipping charged, no gift wrap and $2.16 sales tax. The item costs $9 to make and $5 to post.

  • Listing fee: $0.20
  • Transaction fee: 6.5% of $36 = $2.34
  • Payment processing: 3% of $38.16 + $0.25 = $1.39
  • Total fees: $3.93

Profit is $36 โˆ’ $3.93 โˆ’ $9 โˆ’ $5 = $18.07, a margin of about 50% of the $36 the buyer paid for the item and shipping. If the same order came through an offsite ad at 15%, another $5.40 in fees would cut profit to $12.67, a margin of about 35%.

Worked example: a UK order

A UK seller sells a ยฃ25 print with ยฃ4 shipping. Fees: listing about ยฃ0.15, transaction 6.5% of ยฃ29 = ยฃ1.89, processing 4% of ยฃ29 + ยฃ0.20 = ยฃ1.36, and the regulatory operating fee of 0.48% = ยฃ0.14. Total fees are about ยฃ3.53. With an ยฃ8 cost and ยฃ3.50 postage, profit is about ยฃ13.97, a margin of 48%. VAT that Etsy charges UK sellers on its fees is not included, so add it if you are not VAT registered and cannot reclaim it.

Worked example: a digital download

A $5 printable with no shipping and no tax pays $0.20 listing, $0.33 transaction and $0.40 processing, about $0.93 in total. That is 18.5% of the price, because the fixed fees weigh heavily on cheap items. Bundling three printables at $12 cuts the fee share to about 13%.

What the results mean

Total fees is everything Etsy deducts from the order. Profit is what remains after fees, item cost and your shipping cost. Margin is profit as a share of item price plus shipping. The break-even price is the item price at which profit is zero for your current shipping, costs and settings. Price below it and every sale loses money. Run the calculation with offsite ads on as well as off, because an ad sale at break-even pricing without ads will lose money.

How the break-even price is worked out

Most Etsy fees are a percentage of what the buyer pays, so they rise with your price. For a US seller without offsite ads, about 9.5% of the item price plus shipping goes to the transaction and processing fees, plus a little more for processing on sales tax, plus the fixed $0.20 listing fee and $0.25 processing fee. The calculator solves for the item price where that total, your item cost and your shipping cost exactly equal the money coming in. With offsite ads at 15%, the percentage share rises to about 24.5%, which is why ad sales need a much higher break-even price.

Pricing shipping on Etsy

Because the transaction fee and processing fee both apply to shipping, a shipping charge equal to your postage cost still loses money on every order. There are two common ways to handle it:

  1. Charge postage plus fees. For a US shop, divide your postage cost by 0.905 to cover the 6.5% transaction fee and 3% processing. $6.00 of postage becomes about $6.63. The calculator shows this figure for your own numbers.
  2. Offer free shipping and raise the item price. Add your postage cost to the item price and set shipping to $0. The fees are the same either way, and many buyers prefer one all-in price. Enter 0 for shipping charged and your postage as your shipping cost to compare.

Search placement matters too. Since October 1, 2024, Etsy has prioritized US domestic listings with a shipping price under $6 in search, and listings of $35 or more covered by the free shipping guarantee are treated as free (source: Etsy Seller Handbook). In the example above, $6.63 of shipping would cross that line, so for US buyers it often pays to move part of the postage into the item price and keep shipping under $6.

Who uses this calculator

  • Handmade sellers pricing a new product from material and labor costs.
  • Print on demand sellers checking that the margin survives the provider's base price, shipping and a possible offsite ad.
  • Digital download sellers seeing how much fixed fees take from low prices.
  • Sellers outside the US who need their own processing and regulatory rates, in their own currency.

Troubleshooting

  • Your Etsy statement shows more fees. Look for Etsy Ads (on-site ads), shipping labels, VAT on seller fees, or a currency conversion fee. The calculator covers order fees, not those extras.
  • The listing fee looks odd in another currency. Etsy bills it as $0.20 USD. The calculator converts it with an approximate exchange rate that you can edit under Fee rates.
  • Break-even shows $0. The shipping you charge already covers your costs and fees, so any item price is profitable.

Common mistakes

  • Treating shipping as free money. The transaction fee applies to shipping, so charging $6 for postage that costs $6 still loses about 39ยข to that fee alone.
  • Forgetting multi-quantity listing fees. Selling three of an item in one order triggers two extra $0.20 charges.
  • Ignoring offsite ads. Even if most orders are organic, a few ad sales at 15% can erase the margin on low-priced items.
  • Leaving out VAT on fees. In some countries Etsy charges VAT on its seller fees. The calculator does not include it, nor Etsy Ads, Etsy Plus or deposit fees.

Etsy or your own store?

On the $36 example order, Etsy fees are about $3.93, while Shopify Basic with Shopify Payments takes about $1.34 in payment fees but charges $39 a month and sends you no traffic. Run the same numbers in the Shopify fee calculator. Many sellers keep Etsy for discovery and add their own store for repeat buyers. If you do, the AM Jarvis Product Importer copies products from public Shopify and WooCommerce stores into your store with variants, images and prices. Better tags bring more organic Etsy sales, which carry no offsite ads fee, so fill all 13 with the Etsy tag generator. For product ideas, see how to find a niche.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Etsy take per sale in 2026?

For a US seller, Etsy takes a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping and gift wrap, and 3% + $0.25 payment processing on the total sale. On a $36 order that is about $3.93, or roughly 11%. Orders from offsite ads add 12% or 15%, capped at $100 per order.

Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?

Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee, the offsite ads fee and the regulatory operating fee are all charged on the item price plus shipping and gift wrap. Payment processing is charged on the total sale, including shipping and sales tax. Build these fees into your shipping price.

Does Etsy charge fees on sales tax?

Etsy does not charge its 6.5% transaction fee on sales tax, but payment processing (3% + $0.25 in the US) applies to the full amount the buyer pays, including the tax Etsy collects. That is why the calculator asks for the tax on the order.

Can I turn off Etsy offsite ads?

Only if your shop has never made $10,000 in sales in any 365-day period. Those shops can opt out in Shop Manager > Settings > Offsite Ads and pay 15% when they stay in. Once a shop reaches $10,000, offsite ads become mandatory at 12% for the life of the shop.

What is the Etsy regulatory operating fee?

It is a percentage Etsy charges sellers in certain countries to cover the cost of local regulations such as digital services taxes. Since June 22, 2026 it ranges from 0.05% in India to 1.97% in Hungary, with the UK at 0.48% and France at 1.14%. It applies to item price, shipping and gift wrap.

Did Etsy fees change in 2026?

The only 2026 change so far was the regulatory operating fee increase on June 22, 2026 in the UK, France, Italy and Spain. The $0.20 listing fee, 6.5% transaction fee, payment processing rates and offsite ads rates stayed the same.

How do I calculate my break-even price on Etsy?

Add your item cost and shipping cost, then find the price where Etsy's percentage and fixed fees plus those costs equal what the buyer pays. The calculator does this for you based on your country, shipping, quantity and offsite ads setting. Anything below the break-even price loses money on each sale.

What percentage does Etsy take overall?

For a typical US order without offsite ads, total fees land around 10% to 12% of what the buyer pays for the item and shipping. Cheap items pay a higher share because of the fixed $0.20 and $0.25 fees. An offsite ad sale pushes the total to about 22% to 27%.
