AM A 40-page scan that should have been four separate documents, a statement where you need only one page, a catalog you want to share one section of: splitting solves all of these. This tool breaks a PDF into smaller files by page ranges, by a fixed number of pages per file, or by pages you pick out.
It works in your browser, so the PDF is never uploaded, and the files you download carry no watermark.
How to split a PDF
- Drag the PDF into the box at the top of this page, or click it to choose the file.
- Pick a split mode: page ranges, every N pages, or extract selected pages.
- Enter the ranges, enter the number of pages per file, or click the pages you want to keep.
- Click split. The new files are created on your device.

Use page ranges when the document has natural sections of different lengths, such as a contract followed by schedules. Use every N pages when a scanner has combined many same-length documents, for example 30 two-page forms scanned in one batch: enter 2 and you get 15 files. Use extract when you want a few specific pages and nothing else. You can also enter a single range such as 4-9 to pull one continuous section out as its own file.
What the tool can and cannot do
Splitting copies pages into new files without converting them to images. Text stays selectable and searchable, and there is no loss of quality. The original PDF on your device is not changed.
It splits by page number only. It does not split by bookmarks or by a target file size, and it does not cut a single page in half, which is sometimes needed for scans that put two book pages on one sheet. It also cannot open password-protected PDFs.
One thing surprises people: the parts can add up to more than the original file size. Fonts and other resources that the original shared across all pages have to be copied into each new file that uses them. So four parts of a 2 MB PDF can add up to noticeably more than 2 MB. That is expected, not a fault. If a part is still too large for an upload form, run it through Compress PDF.
Tips for splitting
- Page numbers mean positions in the file. The tool counts the first page of the file as page 1, even if the printed number on that page is "iii" or "Cover". Check the thumbnails before you type ranges.
- Write ranges in order. Listing 1-3, 5, 8-10 from first to last keeps the output files in the same order as the document.
- Use the ZIP for many parts. Splitting a long document every few pages can produce dozens of files. The ZIP download saves them all in one go instead of one click per file.
- Extract instead of deleting. If you want to keep 3 pages of a 50-page file, extracting those 3 is quicker than deleting 47.
- Rename the parts. Downloaded files get generic names. Rename them straight away (for example 2026-08-invoice-1042.pdf) so they are easy to find later.
- Combine the parts differently. Splitting pairs well with Merge PDF: pull sections out of several documents, then join them into a new one. For moving single pages around inside one file, Organize PDF is quicker.
Examples from running a store

Privacy and limits
The split happens entirely in your browser. Your PDF is read and divided on your own device and never uploaded to a server, and the tool keeps working offline once the page has loaded. Bank statements, medical letters and contracts can be split here without sending them anywhere.
It is free with no daily limit, needs no sign-up and adds no watermark. Very large files, in the hundreds of megabytes, depend on your device's memory, so they split more reliably on a computer than on a phone.
Password-protected (encrypted) PDFs must be opened with their password in another app first and saved as an unprotected copy, if you have permission. This tool does not remove passwords or restrictions.
