AM Different places want different image formats. Your website loads faster with WebP or AVIF, Amazon and Etsy want JPG or PNG, and your phone hands you HEIC. This converter handles all of those in one place: add files in almost any common format, choose the output, and download the results. Everything runs in your browser.
You can mix formats in one batch, for example a few HEIC photos and some PNG screenshots, and download everything as a ZIP.
How to use the image converter
- Drag your images into the box at the top of this page, or click it to choose files.
- Choose the output format: JPG, PNG, WebP, or AVIF if your browser offers it.
- For JPG and WebP, set the quality slider. 80 to 85 is a sensible start for photos.
- If you are converting images with transparency to JPG, choose the background color. White is the default.
- Download each converted file, or all of them as one ZIP.

The formats on offer depend partly on your browser. Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari all display AVIF, but creating AVIF files inside a web page is less widely supported, so the AVIF output option only appears when your browser can do it. If you do not see it, try an up-to-date Chrome or Edge, or choose WebP.
Which output format to choose
JPG
The safe choice for photos anywhere: marketplaces, email, print services, older software. No transparency.
PNG
Lossless, with transparency. Best for logos, screenshots, graphics with text and editing copies. Large for photos.
WebP
Smaller than JPG and PNG for most images, with transparency and a quality slider. Google's figures put lossy WebP at 25 to 34% smaller than comparable JPEGs. Every current browser displays it, which makes it a strong format for your own website. Etsy and Amazon do not accept it for listings.
AVIF
Newer and usually smaller still than WebP at the same visual quality, with transparency support. Supported for display in Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari 16.4 and later. Few upload forms accept it yet, so use it on sites you control.
Quality and file size
For JPG and WebP, the quality slider trades file size against detail. Photos viewed on screens usually look right between 75 and 85. Graphics with text show artifacts sooner, so either raise the quality or use PNG. Every lossy conversion discards some detail, so convert from the best original you have rather than from a copy that was already compressed.
Format is only half of file size. A 5000 pixel image in WebP is still heavy. For store and web use, resize with the image resizer to the size you actually display, then convert.
Common conversions and what to expect
- PNG photo to JPG or WebP: usually a large saving, because PNG stores photos losslessly. Keep logos and screenshots as PNG. The PNG to JPG converter covers transparency handling in detail.
- WebP or AVIF to JPG: the file often gets bigger, since JPG is less efficient. You convert for compatibility, not size.
- JPG to PNG: the file grows and nothing improves visually. Worth it only for editing copies or tools that require PNG.
- BMP to anything: BMP is usually uncompressed, so PNG or JPG versions are much smaller with no visible change.
- GIF to PNG: a clean still image of the first frame, useful where animated GIFs are refused, as they are on Etsy.

These lists come from each platform's help pages (Shopify, Etsy, eBay) and Amazon's image guidelines, and they change from time to time, so check the upload page if a file is rejected.
Tips for store and marketplace images
- Upload JPG or PNG to marketplaces. Convert WebP, AVIF and HEIC before listing on Etsy or Amazon.
- Do not pre-convert for Shopify. Shopify's CDN serves WebP or AVIF to browsers that support them automatically, so upload a high quality JPG or PNG and let it handle delivery.
- Use a white background for cutouts. Etsy shows transparent areas as black, and Amazon needs a pure white main image.
- Use WebP or AVIF on sites you build yourself, such as blogs and niche sites, where you control the HTML.

Privacy
All conversion runs in your browser, on your device. No image is uploaded to a server. EXIF metadata, including GPS location from phone photos, is not carried into the converted files.
