Your TikTok username is your @handle. It appears on every video, in mentions, in duets and in your profile link, and you can only change it once every 30 days. This generator takes your keywords and a style and returns username ideas that already follow TikTok's rules, so you do not waste a change on a name the app will reject. Every idea has one-click links to the same name on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube, which makes it easy to claim a matching handle everywhere.
It is free, needs no account and does not connect to TikTok. Each batch is shuffled, so New batch gives fresh combinations.
How to use the TikTok Username Generator
- Enter one to three keywords, separated by commas: your topic (
plant care), your niche (thrift finds) or a word that fits your content. - Add your first name (optional) for personal ideas such as @maya.grows.
- Pick a style: brandable, personal brand, niche-descriptive or fun.
- Press Generate names. Each card shows the @username, the readable name it came from and its length.
- Use the maximum length slider (3 to 24) to hide longer ideas. Short usernames are easier to say in a video and to type.
- Star your favorites. They stay in a shortlist at the top, saved in your browser.
- Click TikTok, Instagram and YouTube on each favorite. If a profile loads, that name is taken on that platform.
- Set it in the app: Profile > Edit profile > Username. TikTok tells you right away if the name is unavailable. Save only when you are sure, because the 30-day wait starts as soon as you save.
A worked example
Maya is starting a houseplant account. She enters plant care and her first name.
| Style | Idea | Username | Length |
|---|---|---|---|
| Personal brand | Maya Grows | @maya.grows or @mayagrows | 10 or 9 |
| Personal brand | Growing with Maya | @growingwithmaya | 15 |
| Niche-descriptive | Plant Care Made Simple | @plantcaremadesimple | 19 |
| Fun | Plantville | @plantville | 10 |
Two-word names sometimes get a single period or underscore between the words, and longer names are joined without separators so they stay under 24 characters. Maya likes @maya.grows because it is short and still fits if she later posts about vegetables. She checks it on all three platforms, finds it free on TikTok and Instagram, and takes @mayagrows on YouTube because YouTube handles are not case-sensitive and she prefers no period there.
TikTok username rules in 2026
- Length: 2 to 24 characters. The generator shows ideas of 3 or more so they also work as YouTube handles.
- Characters: letters, numbers, underscores and periods only. No spaces, hyphens, emoji or other symbols.
- Periods: a username cannot end with a period.
- Changes: once every 30 days.
- Uniqueness: no two accounts can share a username.
Your username is separate from your Name, the display name in bold on your profile. The Name can be up to 30 characters, can include spaces, capitals and emoji, does not have to be unique, and can be changed once every 7 days. So you can keep a readable Name like "Maya | Plant Care" while the username stays short.
Warning: Changing your username also changes your profile link. Links to your old @handle in bios, emails, YouTube descriptions and print material stop pointing to you, and someone else may claim the old name.
Matching your handle across TikTok, Instagram and YouTube
| Platform | Length | Allowed characters |
|---|---|---|
| TikTok | 2 to 24 | Letters, numbers, underscores, periods (no period at the end) |
| Up to 30 | Letters, numbers, underscores, periods | |
| YouTube handle | 3 to 30 | Letters, numbers, underscores, hyphens, periods, middle dots (no punctuation at the start or end) |
The safe overlap is 3 to 24 characters using only letters, numbers, underscores and periods, with no punctuation at the start or end. Every idea the generator shows fits it, and the card says "Fits TikTok, Instagram and YouTube".
How to claim a matching set
- Pick three or four favorites.
- Check each on TikTok first, since it has the tightest rules.
- Check the same name on Instagram and YouTube with the links on the card.
- Claim all three on the same day once you find one that is free everywhere, even on platforms you will not use for months.
- If one platform is taken, add the same small modifier everywhere (such as "hq" or "studio") rather than a random number on one platform only.
Which style suits you
- Creators on camera: personal brand. Your audience follows you, and a name-based handle survives a change of topic.
- Faceless and theme pages: niche-descriptive or brandable. The handle has to tell people what they will see.
- Shopify, Etsy and TikTok Shop sellers: use your store name so shoppers can find the shop from a video. If it is taken, add "shop", "co" or "official". Still choosing a brand name? Start with the store name generator.
- Comedy, gaming and fan accounts: the fun style gives alliteration and wordplay that stick.
- Freelancers and coaches: your name plus your service (such as "maya.designs") reads as professional and is easy to put on a business card.
- Students and school clubs: keep it clean and permanent. A username you would be happy for a future employer to see saves a change later.
What makes a good TikTok username
- Easy to say out loud. People hear usernames in videos and then search for them.
- One separator at most. Three periods or underscores look like placeholders and are easy to mistype.
- No random numbers. "plantmaya_2291" suggests the real name was taken.
- Not tied to a trend. A meme in your username dates fast, and you can only change it monthly.
- No brand names you do not own. Impersonation and trademark reports can get a username reclaimed or an account banned.
Before you press Save: a quick checklist
Because you only get one username change every 30 days, it is worth two minutes of checks before you commit.
- Say it in a sentence. "Follow me at maya dot grows" should sound natural. If you need to spell it out, pick another.
- Type it on a phone keyboard. Periods and underscores sit on a second keyboard screen on many phones, which is one more step for a new follower.
- Search it on TikTok. Look for similar names that fans could confuse with yours, such as the same words with an extra underscore.
- Search it on Google. Make sure it is not a brand, a person you do not want to be mixed up with, or a slang term you did not know.
- Update your links the same day. Your bio link, YouTube descriptions, email signature and link-in-bio page all point to the old address once you change it.
Your Name field also helps people find you in TikTok search, so put your topic there ("Maya | Plant Care") even if the username is short and personal.
Troubleshooting
- TikTok says the username is not available. Another account holds it, or it was recently released and is still reserved. Try a different word order or a short modifier.
- The profile link shows "Couldn't find this account" but TikTok still refuses the name. Banned, private or reserved accounts can hold names without a visible profile. Pick another.
- The app will not let me change my username. You changed it within the last 30 days. The app shows when you can change it again.
- "No names fit that length." Raise the slider or use shorter keywords.
- Personal ideas do not include my name. Add your first name in the optional field and generate again.
Limitations and privacy
The generator runs in your browser from word lists and patterns. It does not use AI, check trademarks or look up availability for you: the links simply open each platform's public profile address. Your keywords are not sent to our server, and your shortlist is kept only in your browser.
After you choose a name
Set up your profile photo and bio in the same session so the profile looks active when people first visit. Resize a profile image with the free image resizer. Once you are posting, track how each video performs with the TikTok engagement rate calculator. For a YouTube channel with the same name, the YouTube channel name generator builds matching handles, and YouTube Studio in AM Jarvis plans video topics from real YouTube search suggestions if you repost your TikToks as longer videos.
