Sometimes the best thing about a video's sound is getting rid of it. A product clip recorded in a busy workshop, a background conversation you do not want to publish, a song playing in a shop that could trigger a copyright claim, or a listing video for a marketplace that never plays sound anyway. Removing the audio track solves all of these in one step, without opening a video editor.
This tool takes the sound track out of a video and leaves the picture untouched. The muted copy has the same resolution, frame rate and look as the original, and it is a little smaller.
How to remove audio from a video
- Drag the video onto the box above, or click to choose it. The box shows today's size limit. When your browser can read the file, its length and resolution appear under the file name.
- Click Remove audio.
- Watch the progress bar: the upload in megabytes, then In line if other files are ahead, then the processing. Removing sound is quick, because the picture is not re-encoded.
- When Your file is ready appears, the muted video downloads automatically, or click the Download button.
- Play it to confirm there is no sound, then click Convert another file for the next video.
The video is sent over HTTPS to our conversion server. The upload is deleted as soon as the job ends, and the muted copy 30 minutes after it is ready. Nothing else is sent.
When a silent video is the better video

What changes and what does not
- The sound track is removed completely, not just turned down. Players show the video as having no audio.
- The picture is copied as it is. Resolution, frame rate, colors and quality are identical, because the video stream is not compressed again.
- The file gets smaller by the size of the audio, typically around 1 MB per minute for phone videos. It is not a way to make a video dramatically smaller; for that, use the video compressor.
- The length stays the same. To shorten the clip as well, use the video trimmer before or after muting.
Worked example: an Etsy listing video
Etsy listing videos must be 3 to 15 seconds long and up to 100 MB, and they play without sound, as of October 2026. Say you filmed a 40 second clip of a candle being lit, with traffic noise in the background. Trim it to the best 12 seconds, remove the audio here, and check the size. If it is still over 100 MB (likely only for 4K footage), run it through the compressor with Balanced. The result uploads to Etsy cleanly and can be reused as a silent loop on Pinterest or your own store.

Music you do not own
YouTube's Content ID and similar systems on Facebook and Instagram listen to the audio of every upload. A recognizable song playing in the background, even quietly from a shop speaker, can lead to the sound being muted, the video being blocked in some countries, or the ad revenue going to the music owner. Removing the sound track before you upload takes the copyrighted audio out entirely. Then add music from the platform's own licensed library or a royalty-free source, where the license is clear.
A quick checklist for silent product videos
- Tell the story without words. Show the product in use, its size next to a hand or a common object, and one detail close up.
- Keep the camera steady. A phone on a stack of books beats handheld footage, and it compresses to a smaller file.
- Use daylight. Soft window light shows true colors, which reduces returns.
- Make it loop. Many players repeat short silent clips; ending where you started looks smooth.
- Add text only where needed. One short caption, such as the size or a key feature, works without sound.
Privacy before you post
Phones pick up more than you notice: a colleague on a phone call, a customer's name, a TV in the next room. If the picture is fine but the sound is not, muting is the fastest fix. Remember that the original file on your device still has the sound, so share only the muted copy.
Muting vs replacing the sound
This tool removes audio; it does not add new sound. To put music or a voiceover on the video, mute it here first, then add the new track in an editor such as CapCut, Clipchamp, iMovie or the editor inside Instagram or TikTok. Starting from a silent file means the old sound cannot leak through when you lower its volume. If you need the original sound as a separate file before muting, save it first with MP4 to MP3.
Other ways to mute a video
- iPhone: open the video in Photos, tap Edit, tap the speaker icon in the top corner so it shows as muted, then Done.
- Android: Google Photos and most gallery editors have a mute or volume control in the video editor.
- ffmpeg:

Troubleshooting
The muted video does not play on my phone
The picture keeps its original format, so a video your phone could not play before muting will not play after. Compress it with the video compressor, which writes a standard MP4, or play it in VLC.
The muted video still has sound
Make sure you are playing the downloaded copy, not the original: the muted file is usually the newest one in your downloads folder and its name is based on the original. If an app adds its own music when you post, turn that off in the app.
The file is too large
The limit is shown in the drop box. Trim the part you need first.
"This file could not be used"
The file is damaged or not a video. Try playing it in VLC; if VLC cannot play it, export it again from the camera or editor.
The upload failed, daily limit, or unavailable
Check your connection and click Try again. The free daily count resets tomorrow. If the converter is paused, click Check again after a minute.
